World Fellowship Center’s 2013 Summer Program!. Check this calendar for updates to our June 23-August 31**  educational, cultural, arts and body movement programming.

We post pre-season events here – places and times we’ll be promoting our peace and justice educational program. Please let us know of conferences or events where we might find folks interested in learning about our unique summer retreat and conference center.

*Note: Some trainings, workshops and activities require  advance registration and per-person fee: these are noted as such in descriptions and marked with an asterisk.

** Please note that  2013 WFC programming will end early this year in a change from our  previously mailed  brochure, due to a  private wedding at World Fellowship Center on Labor Day Weekend.

Intensive Feldenkrais® Awareness Through Movement® Workshop* – Thursday – Sunday July 4-7, 2013
10:00 am – July 7, 2013 @ 4:00 pm

Power and grace from the core.  Develop awareness of pelvis, spine, and shoulder-girdle in relation to the limbs so movement can become more focused and more efficient.  No experience necessary.

Pre-registration & Fee required. $125 per person, $150 per person if registered after June 1.

Pull up a mat in the Schmauch Meeting Room, close your eyes, and prepare yourself for a gentle, yet surprisingly effective movement exploration. A sequence of compelling movement suggestions will draw your attention to the way you move and how you relate to yourself and your environment. As you become aware of your body, your preferences and your habits, you will find yourself spontaneously discovering new and better ways of moving and being in the world. Offered daily from July 4-July 7.  Class times to be announced..

Whole Body Somatic Rejuvenation Retreat – July 7-14, 2013
9:00 am – July 14, 2013 @ 5:00 pm

Experience the immediate pleasure and freedom of movement that comes with restoring communication between your brain and your muscles.  You will be guided through  slow, simple movements that release the muscle tension caused by stress, anxiety, injuries, and surgery.   You will release stiffness in your spine and joints, feel more relaxed, move easier, breathe more fully, and learn a brief routine to maintain freedom on your own…a missing link in fitness.  Times TBD.   Please bring a yoga mat. Comfortable clothes & bare feet.

Thursday – Sunday, July 11-14, 2013

 

An opportunity to stretch the limits of your capacity while enjoying breathtaking scenery and camaraderie.

 

Schedule:  Check in on Wednesday or Thursday morning for four days of riding. Or arrive earlier / stay longer!

Day 1: Thursday,            July 11               50 mile ride over the Bear Notch Pass or shorter alternative

Day 2: Friday,               July 12               40 mile warm up ride through scenic Tamworth, or shorter alternative

Day 3: Saturday,            July 13               CENTURY RIDE: 100 road miles of scenic wonder

Day 4: Sunday,              July 14               Rain Date for Century Ride or Recovery ride

Organizers will provide logistical support, and a sweep for those needing help.

 

Who Should Join:

-          Reasonably strong riders who want the challenge of a spectacular ride through the White Mountains

-          Club riders who want a new and different experience.

-          People who want to meet and share a ride with like minded folks.

-          Cyclists who want to experience World Fellowship’s unique facilities and community in a rustic setting.

 

World Fellowship is an independent non-profit secular camp and conference center with a mission of promoting peace and social justice through education and dialogue, inspired by nature. The Center is on 455 acres of wilderness, with nature trails, a mile long pristine lake for canoeing, kayaking and swimming, and an organic farm. 

 

Cost: $70, $95 after June 1, in addition to World Fellowship rates (See www.worldfellowship.org for more info.)

The Three B’s of Swimming: Buoyancy, Balance, and Breathing- Monday to Friday July 16-20, 2013
2:00 pm – July 20, 2013 @ 4:00 pm

Maury Swim PicJoin local Masters swimmer and coach Maury McKinney for a five-days of invigorating and enlightening early aftrnoon swims at Whitton Pond this summer. He’s on a mission to promote inner peace and better breathing through education and dialogue inspired by nature. Swimmers will need a suit, towel, goggles, and warm clothing. Training equipment will be provided. Offered daily from August 13-17. Time subject to change. $10 program fee per session.

Maury lives in North Conway with his wife, 13 year old daughter, and two cats. He is a full-time aquatic educator, swim coach and part-time climbing guide. Maury has achieved Masters top ten national rankings in the pool and good success in some well known open-water events in lakes and ocean. Swimming for nearly his entire life, he enjoys sharing his experience and enthusiasm for swimming and water safety. Maury once swam 42 miles across and back Lake Winnipesaukee in 26 hours as a fundraiser for the White Mountain Aquatic Foundation.

Capoeira Angola with Kilombo Novo, Sunday to Sunday, July 28 – August 4, 2013

Youth Empowerment & Body Movement.

Capoeira is a Brazilian martial art that combines elements of dance and music. Join with Kilombo Novo to learn these quick and complex moves, using mainly power, speed, and leverage for leg sweeps. Offered daily from July 28- August 4. Time subject to change.

Kilombo Novo is a community of people that study the Afro-Brazilian martial art called Capoeira Angola. This family of community members and professionals seeks to reduce urban violence, trauma, and loss caused by poverty and living in disenfranchised neighborhoods who face racism, classism, access to deadly weapons and drugs, negative images in the media, and STD’s. The Capoeira Angola programs provides not only discipline, but tools to function as a healthy society – physically, mentally and spiritually through the philosophy, practice, and history of Capoeira Angola’s indigenous knowledge and wisdom.

Kilimbo is an African word that means a community, group or tribe. Novo is a Brazilian Portuguese word that means new. Kilimbo Novo = New Community.
